The challenge
Triflex, working with ProSure authorised contractor Weatherproofing Advisors Ltd. have completed renovations to a 100m² roof at the busy student accommodation complex Arena Village, located in the heart of Leeds city centre.
The single-ply 22nd storey roof had been suffering from long-term water ingress, which had steadily increased over recent years. This had impacted on the building owners’ ability to fully occupy the building, leaving several rooms not fit for habitation whilst damage was being caused to the internal structure of the building and depreciating the asset. Numerous repairs had been attempted over the years with little lasting effect.
Inspection and testing revealed that there were large amounts of standing water degrading the original PU coating system beneath the inverted roof build up. This had caused blistering and was allowing water to ingress. Inadequate and blocked drainage had further compounded the problem.
The solution
Working alongside Triflex, Weatherproofing Advisors Ltd. chose to specify Triflex ProTect. Testing revealed that a good bond could be achieved to the existing PU coating system, and this solution meant that the issues with standing water would be eradicated as Triflex ProTect is hydrolysis resistant.
Triflex ProTect is a fully reinforced BBA and ETA certified PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) resin, which is totally cold applied and compatible with thousands of substrates. It can be applied all year round and is an ideal solution for refurbishing zero pitched roofs.
After working with Triflex previously, we knew that the Triflex ProTect solution would work under standing water. This offered us a viable solution without the need to alter falls on a difficult high-level balcony with restricted access. The whole project was turned around very quickly and the client couldn’t be happier with the end result.
